PCT2012 Side Hikes

For those who just can’t get enough hiking here is a partial list of the side hikes I did during my PCT 2012 Thru-hike.  Most are fairly short and are very rewarding.  I had climbed Split Mountain on a previous section hike of the Sierra High Route but if you are a peak bagger you may wish to add this, close to the trail, 14k peak also.  Another one I would suggest adding is Mt Thielsen at around mile1859.  I have listed the approximate locations based on Half-miles maps based on northbound mileage from Mexico.

• Tahquitz Peak Lookout Tower in the San Jacinto Mtns. (mile 178)
• Spur trail for Mt Baden Powell at 9399 feet (mile 378.2)
• Olancha Peak, bushwhack to the 12,123 ft summit (724.5)
• Mt Whitney, highest point in the lower 48 states (mile 767)
• Tawny Point, rock scramble up a 12,332 foot peak (773)
• Mt Tyndall 14k, class 3-4 rock climb from Shepherd Pass (mile  774.6)
• bushwhack to pot holes, river, and hot springs near Muir Ranch (mile 857.7 see topo)
• Upper and Lower Rainbow Falls (mile 906.7)
• Devil's Post Pile National Monument (mile 908.3)
• Lembert Dome and Dog Lake Loop, day hike from Tuolumne Meadow (mile 942.5)
• Twin Peaks in Granite Chief Wilderness, just off the Tahoe Rim Trail (mile 1131.8)
• Tinkers Knob (mile 1147.5)
• Anderson Peak, from Benson Hut/Cabin (mile 1150)
• Judah Loop Trail (Mt Judah and Donnor Summit) (mile 1153.4)
• Lassen Volcanic NP - Terminal Geyser (mile 1351.4)

• Old Snowy Mountain, rock scramble at Goat Rocks (mile 2284.7)
• Blowout Mountain – up ridge to summit and down knife-edge north (mile 2366)
