Cool weather and some bugs but I hear they die out farther south. Entering the Judge C. R. Magney State Park and the spectacular Devil's Kettle Vista. Camping tonight at South Little Brule River.

Aug 30, 2023 - Day 1 on the SHT (Northern Terminus)
Today's the start of my thru-hike of the Superior Hiking Trail. Yesterday was my birthday and after traveling by bus from Duluth, and shuttle from my friend Max to the trailhead campsite last night, it feels good to be on the trail. A quick mile or so out and back to the 270 Degree Overlook at the border waters and Canada and the official Northern Terminus of the SHT kicks off the adventure.

At times the trail was overgrown and the cool temperatures covered the brush in dew.
through the trees ahead of me. Today included Rosebush Ridge, the highest elevation on the trail, but don't let the number fool you. There's a lot of ups and downs.
